The Scoop About Us
We founded Viphya Chambo out of a pure passion for fish. The Technical Director, Odoi James Mbogo Mwangonde was fascinated and inspired by Namibia's Fish Industry when he covered the former President of Malawi Dr Bakili Muluzi's state visit to the country as a journalist.He constructed the company's first fish pond (measuring 300 square metres) and has since overseen the company's growth to 3.5 hectares of fish ponds and an annual production of 6 tons.With the ambitions and inspirations we have come together to form a truly amazing company that all of us are proud to be a part of. Everything You Need
Scheduled Weekly Sales and Delivery
Every Teusdays and Thursdays a Viphya Chambo fresh fish Van is parked at strategic points of sale in Mzuzu City offering customers the rare opportunity to buy fresh fish.Customers are also encouraged to order and pay for fish via mobile,upon placing an order the Viphya Chambo tricycle (three wheeler) fish van is used to deliver the fresh fish at their doorstep.
Offtake Arrangement
With the effort to boost production,Viphya Chambo has an offtake arrangement with contract farmers in northern Malawi.As part of the contractual agreement the company supplies the farmers with the required high quality sex reversed fingerlings (fish seed),fish feed (imported from Zambia),technical oversight on BMPs (Best Management Practices) through a monthly technical backstopping exercise and upon harvest the company buys the fish from the farmers at an agreed price and transports it to to it's target market.
Production and supply of fingerlings (Fish Seed)
Viphya Chambo has a fish pond greenhouse which allows it to produce fingerlings during winter.Furthermore,the company has 17 nursing tanks which are used for sex reversal.Commercial producers and other farmers order for the supply of fingerlings(fish seed),a freezer van is used for the transportation of the fingerlings inorder to reduce mortalities.
